The court sentenced the leaders of the Ingush protests from seven to nine years in prison

The leaders of the protests against the change in the borders of Ingushetia Malsag Ukhazhov, Akhmed Barakhoev and Musa Malsagov received nine years in prison. Ismail Nalgiev, Bagaudin Khautiev and Barakh Chemurziev were appointed for eight years. Zarifa Sautiyeva was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. It was on such terms that the prosecutor’s office initially insisted.

In 2018-2019, there were protests in Ingushetia over an agreement to change the border with Chechnya. According to the document, the republic was losing part of its territories. The largest rally was in Magas in March 2019, during which clashes occurred after the security forces tried to disperse the protesters. Lawyers pointed out that the organizers of the event had repeatedly called to stop the clashes. The defense provided the court with the relevant video recordings.

After the actions there were mass arrests and searches in the homes of activists. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on incitement to riot and attacks on police officers. Dozens of people were accused in criminal cases of violence against government officials. 67 security officials were recognized as victims. In a criminal case of violence against police officers about 40 people were arrested, more than 20 of them were given real sentences.
